Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical engineering is the specialized branch of civil engineering that deals with the properties and science of soil and rock. It is a multi-disciplinary field that blends the scientific analyses of soil and rock with the experience of the engineer to find practical solutions to problems of planning, design and construction. The geotechnical engineer deals with both soils and rocks as they occur in nature as well as soils and rocks used as raw materials for construction. A summary of the geotechnical engineering services Paradigm provides is listed below:

  • Subsurface Exploration
  • Foundations
  • Slope Stability
  • Erosion
  • Pavements
  • Forensics
  • Retaining Structures
  • Geologic Fault Studies
  • Soil Stabilization
  • Groundwater Control / Dewatering
  • Geology

Paradigm´s associates have provided geotechnical engineering services to a wide variety of private, commercial, municipal, and industrial clients throughout the Gulf Coast area. Projects for which we have provided geotechnical engineering services include high-rise structures; commercial and industrial parks; institutional facilities; water and wastewater facilities; water control and marine structures; petrochemical facilities; airports and associated runways, taxiways, and aprons; and residential developments.

Paradigm maintains a 5,500 square foot testing laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to perform analyses, measurements, tests on soils and related construction materials. Our geotechnical laboratory is accredited by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA).

We provide services during the planning stage of a project to evaluate site and groundwater conditions, during the design phase to provide specific recommendations for foundations and earthwork, during the construction phase to verify anticipated soil and groundwater conditions, and following construction to evaluate foundation and earthwork performance.
